Over three decades of compassion, care, and community transformation
How It All Began
LIWOCARE was born in 1989 as a compassion and prison ministry under Living Word Ministries Inc, a Christian denomination with presence in Nigeria, the USA, and the United Kingdom.
What began as visits to correctional facilities quickly grew into something far greater. The organisation expanded to embrace the rehabilitation of ex-prisoners, support for single mothers, care for those battling addiction and HIV/AIDS, as well as medical care for the sick, food for the hungry, clothing for the destitute, and provision for widows.
During these formative years, the organisation was known as WE-CARE — a name that reflected its heart and mission.

to LIWOCARE
In 2002, WE-CARE transformed into LIWOCARE and went public as a non-governmental, non-profit organisation registered with the Federal Government of Nigeria (Registration Number 14373).
This pivotal decision was driven by the continuing disintegration of societal structures and values in Nigeria, which daily increased the number of vulnerable people with no access to provision or medical care.
By becoming a public entity, LIWOCARE positioned itself to reach a far greater number of people, opening doors for individuals, government bodies, and philanthropic organisations to share in the vision.
What Guides Us

Minister to, provide care for, nurture, and rehabilitate all those in physical, material, mental, and spiritual need — the poor, the abandoned, prisoners, the oppressed, the homeless, and the dejected.
Protect and defend the rights of children, the helpless, and all those whose rights have been denied.
Establish and build maternity homes, orphanages, and care facilities for those with mental, physical, and spiritual challenges.
Rehabilitate vulnerable women and single mothers.
Bring peace and healing to broken homes and families.
Provide pathways to gainful employment for the unemployed.
Foster environments of love, peace, and good neighbourliness where these are lacking.
Provide counselling services, organise workshops and seminars aimed at uplifting the conditions of children, men, and women in the community.
Collaborate with prison authorities, legal departments, hospitals, remand homes, and orphanages to assist their residents.

Distribution of food, clothing, shoes, and gifts to over 150 widows
Bi-weekly prison outreach programmes
Feeding programmes for the poor and homeless
Rehabilitation and skills acquisition: training ex-convicts and single mothers as computer operators, hairdressers, seamstresses, and woodworkers
Payment of hospital bills for patients with tuberculosis, stroke, diabetes, and mental disorders
Counselling services for over 3,000 persons on marital, economic, emotional, spiritual, and medical issues
